Today's Theological Term
"Anabaptist - lit., "rebaptizer." It is a Reformation era movement, having roots in the Apostolic period, which baptized adult converts who had previously been baptized as infants, hence the term rebaptizer. It is a generic term which includes theologically diverse groups. Orthodox Anabaptists emphasized church purity, regenerate church membership, believer's baptism, immersion, congregational polity, religious liberty, and church-state separation. Modern Baptists find their roots in this non-Protestant tradition."*
